A Summer Wrap Up from Soul of Travel

Summer might be coming to an end, but that does’t mean our travel and adventures have to as well. Here are some of our favorite things to inspire you for your future travels.

Sisters Sojourn

Have you been following along on my travels with my three daughters? We departed from Colorado back in mid-June and have spent the summer exploring Europe, visiting London, Scotland, Paris and several cities in Spain. We’ve just spent three weeks in Croatia and are actually sitting on a ferry back to Split to connect with our flight to Greece. It has bene a bit of a whirlwind (the best kind) so that is why we’ve been a bit quiet here. But we are excited for you to be able to join us on some of our adventures over the next 10 months.

Attention Families! Join us in Egypt in October.
We’ll be joining a World School Pop-Up Hub in Marsa Alam for the month. Near the end we plan to take a river cruise on the Nile, visit Luxor and Abu Simbel and end our time in Egypt with a few days in Cairo.  Just reply to this email and we’ll let you know where you can find us and how to join the nearly full pop-up if that is of interest to you.

Where to find us in 2024!
In the new year, we’ll eventually make our way to Central and South America and are working on a few places for you to join our Sojourn. We are planning a Spanish-Language immersion in Mexico and Guatemala, a family Sojourn starting in Antigua and visiting magical Lake Atitlan, a surf and yoga experience in either Nicaragua or Costa Rica and ending with time in Ecuador and the Galapagos and adventures in Northern Peru.

Read our A Year in the World blog, we’ll be posting more here soon! Or, follow Sisters Sojourn on Instagram.

A New Home for Soul of Travel

This summer, we announced that Soul of Travel has joined the JourneyWoman family and I am happy to be a part of such an engaged community of women over 50 who are traveling the world. They recently announced their Small Cruise Division of their tour listings for female solo travelers. JourneyWoman chose to focus on small ships that are able to protect and conserve nature, wildlife and communities.

Looking for sustainable group travel?

While traveling, I was able to connect with Yugen Earthside founder, Hilary Matson, in London and Paris. We both kicked off our summer attending the International Women in Travel and Tourism Forum. Soul of Travel worked with IWTTF to produce a special series of conversation leading up to the event and you can listen to those here. We met up again when I was with my girls living out their dreams of traveling to Paris  I interviewed Hilary in season three, and it was great to be able to catch up with her in person.  She recently launched her new Yugen Earthside website, where you can find packaged eco-friendly group trips. These experiences make it easy for you to find vetted small-group experiences that have a positive impact.

What are we reading? I have found myself reading a lot more, which I love. It is giving me the opportunity to go back to books I didn’t quite finish and find new ones as well. There are so many past guests who have books being published this fall, and I cannot wait to share those with you. One I have previewed is Nikki Vargas’ Call You When I Land, being named one of the “Best Mentors by Women Still to Come in 2023,’ by Glamour magazine. Nikki is a three-peat guest here on the podcast and you can bet I’ll be talking to her about her book in Season 5.  Make sure you pre-order a copy now. [maybe add my Amazon Affiliate link]. Keep your eyes out for our list of must-read travel memoirs of the fall and a special interview series with these past guests to hear more about their books.

During the Lotus Book Sojourn the past few years, I had a few books I didn’t quite finish. One of these books was Kate Harris’ “Land of Lost Borders.” I honestly had a hard time getting started with this book the first time. I am not sure if it was the timing, or the impending feeling of dread I had as she navigated perilous conditions. However, this time when I picked it up, I couldn’t set it down. As I moved through the book I found myself underlining nearly every other paragraph as she so beautifully captured some of the profound moments of travel.

One of those that really to me was:

“But exploration, more than anything, is like falling in love: the experience feels singular, unprecedented, and revolutionary, despite the fact that others have been there before.”
~Kate Harris, Lands of Lost Borders

I was so moved by her words and was able to immerse myself in an experience I will never have for myself.  I look forward to sharing more about what I am reading as well as recommendations and reviews from the Soul of Travel Community.  Want to share a book you loved? The end of our northern hemisphere summer will also bring us closer to the end of season 4 of the podcast. We are already looking forward to season 5 with new partners, ally’s and sponsors. We are ready to bring these soulful conversations to even more listeners around the world!

Enjoy your journey!
Christine
